Late miscues drop Pagdanganan to joint 27th at Hartford

Bianca Pagdanganan's promising start at the Hartford HealthCare Women's Championship took a downturn as she finished the opening round with back-to-back bogeys, resulting in an even-par 71 and a tie for 27th place. The tournament, held at the Golf Club of Avon in Connecticut, is part of the Epson Tour and features a total purse of $250,000.

Pagdanganan, who recently secured a joint eighth place at the Greater Toledo Open, began her round on the back nine. After an early struggle that left her one-over through six holes, she made a strong comeback. The Filipino golfer birdied the 16th and 18th holes, then continued her momentum into the front nine, where she added another birdie on the par-5 fifth hole, bringing her score to two-under.

At one point, Pagdanganan was tied for eighth, raising hopes for a score in the high 60s. However, her performance faltered in the final stretch. After making steady pars on the next two holes, she dropped shots on the last two holes, which ultimately led to her finishing at level par on the par-71 course.

Despite the disappointing finish, Pagdanganan was the top-performing Filipina after the first round. Her performance showcased her potential, but the late errors prevented her from capitalizing on a strong start.

Tomi Arejola also competed well, carding a one-over 72. After a rocky beginning, she recovered with birdies on the 14th and 16th holes, placing her tied for 48th and just above the projected cutline.

The rest of the Filipino players faced challenges in their rounds. Dottie Ardina struggled to a two-over 73, while Clariss Guce had a rough outing, finishing with a four-over 75 that included a triple bogey on the ninth hole. Pauline del Rosario also had a tough day, ending with a four-over score after a double bogey and a bogey on her final two holes. Sam Bruce's performance was particularly difficult, as she finished with an eight-over 79, putting her in danger of missing the cut.

In contrast, the leaderboard was led by Malaysia's Mirabel Ting and American Megha Ganne, both of whom shot impressive rounds of 66. They held a one-shot lead over Japan's Yurika Tanida, who opened with a 67. Four players, including Camille Boyd, were just a stroke behind after carding 68s, creating a competitive atmosphere as the tournament progresses into the next rounds.

As the second round approaches, Pagdanganan and her fellow competitors will need to regroup and strategize to improve their standings in this tightly contested event. With three rounds remaining, there remains ample opportunity for the players to make significant moves on the leaderboard.
